Brevo alternatives for marketing automation (2026)
The Brevo alternatives to shortlist for marketing automation in 2026 are Positive User (formerly Sarbacane) for a French all-in-one, GetResponse for unlimited workflows on a small budget, ActiveCampaign for depth, Klaviyo for online stores, Plezi and Webmecanik for French B2B, Mautic to self-host and Customer.io for product events. fromHello is open source (AGPL-3.0); its cloud is in early access.
Key takeaways
Pick by the job Brevo does for you today: newsletters and automation from a French vendor (Positive User), unlimited workflows on a small budget (GetResponse), deeper automation (ActiveCampaign), an online store (Klaviyo), B2B lead nurturing from French vendors (Plezi, Webmecanik), product events (Customer.io), or code you run yourself (Mautic, fromHello).
Brevo bills by email volume and caps the contacts each tier stores; its automation covers 2,000 contacts until Standard ($18 a month), and WhatsApp and mobile push wait for Professional ($499). Most alternatives bill by contacts or profiles instead, so price your list, not just your sends.
Every tool here except fromHello also sends newsletters and one-off campaigns. fromHello sends only through journeys triggered by what people do, so keep a newsletter tool if that is the job.
Three are French (Positive User, Plezi, and Webmecanik, whose product is built on Mautic) and one is Polish (GetResponse). Two are open source: Mautic (GPL-3.0-or-later), with French hosts if you'd rather not run it, and fromHello (AGPL-3.0).
Side by side

For reference, Brevo's Starter plan is $9 a month for 5,000 emails and 500 contacts, its automation covers 2,000 contacts until Standard ($18), and Professional starts at $499.

Prices as each vendor's page showed them on 13 October 2026: in euros for GetResponse, Positive User, Plezi, Webmecanik and the Mautic host, in US dollars for the rest. Contacts, profiles and subscribers are each vendor's own term for what it bills.
The shortlist
Brevo, formerly Sendinblue, is a French all-in-one built around email campaigns and newsletters, with SMS, WhatsApp, a sales CRM, live chat and landing pages, billed by email volume. Its automation has limits worth knowing before you compare: workflows cover 2,000 contacts until the Standard plan, WhatsApp and mobile push wait for Professional, and each email tier caps how many contacts you can store. This page covers that automation slice: tools that trigger messages from what people do. If what you need from Brevo is a newsletter, a newsletter tool will do, and a few are noted at the end. For a one-to-one comparison, read fromHello vs Brevo.
How we chose
We kept tools that run multi-step automations triggered by what people do and that buyers weigh against Brevo, then compared the entry price for automation, what the bill counts, native channels, event triggers and licence. On 13 October 2026 we read each vendor's pricing page, product pages and help center, from France: prices are in US dollars for the American vendors and in euros for the European ones, as each vendor shows them, and the table says when a price is billed annually or excludes VAT. This is desk research: we did not run every tool for this update. We build fromHello, so it is listed last and held to the same standard, including where it falls short.
Positive User
Best for
French teams that want Brevo's shape from another French vendor: newsletters, SMS, WhatsApp and automation in one tool.
Strengths
- The closest match to Brevo on this list: email campaigns, SMS and WhatsApp from the entry plan, with a library of ready-made workflows, then web and event tracking, pop-ups and website personalization on the Marketing Automation Suite, at €199 a month billed annually.
- French: the product formerly known as Sarbacane belongs to Positive, a group based in Hem, near Lille, with a French phone line. It says it develops and hosts the platform in Europe, and it holds ISO 27001 certification.
- Contacts are unlimited on every plan: you pay for the plan and a yearly email allowance (60,000 emails a year on the plans listed), not for the size of your list.
Watch-outs
- Billed annually, and automation is counted: 5 active workflows on Campaigns (€69 a month), 20 on the Marketing Automation Suite and 100 on the Customer Engagement Platform (€499).
- 60,000 emails a year is 5,000 a month: a large newsletter list outgrows that allowance quickly, so price the volume you actually send.
- Web push and product recommendations wait for the €499 plan, and sales and customer service tools are €59-a-month add-ons.
GetResponse
Best for
Small teams that want unlimited workflows, landing pages and web push at a small-list price.
Strengths
- Marketer (€54 a month at 1,000 contacts, billed monthly) unlocks unlimited automation workflows, abandoned-cart recovery, sales funnels and unlimited web push, with unlimited email sends on every plan.
- Workflows react to behaviour: site visits, purchases, abandoned carts and email activity can trigger messages or move people between segments, with tags and engagement scores.
- European and long-established: founded in Poland in 1998, with webinars, a website builder and course tools on the Creator plan (€62 a month).
Watch-outs
- Starter (€16 a month) includes one custom workflow; the automation this card describes starts on Marketer.
- SMS, mobile push, transactional email and a dedicated IP are Enterprise features, priced on request.
- The pricing page lists no free plan: a 14-day trial instead.
ActiveCampaign
Best for
Teams whose automations have outgrown Brevo's: many branches, conditions and goals, with a CRM add-on beside them.
Strengths
- A deep visual automation builder with multiple triggers, goals and conditional content, and an 'Event is recorded' trigger for what people do on your site or in your app.
- Prospecting and retargeting audiences on Google, Facebook and LinkedIn from Plus, and WhatsApp and SMS as add-ons from the same plan.
- An MCP server on every plan, so Claude or ChatGPT can work in the account, beside the AI features ActiveCampaign calls Active Intelligence.
Watch-outs
- Billed by contacts and plan, with 1 to 5 users included. Starter ($15 a month for 1,000 contacts, billed annually) limits each automation to five actions and sends email only; unlimited actions, landing pages and cross-channel automation start on Plus, at $49.
- No native push: it comes through integrations, and site messages, the in-app surface, start on Plus.
- No free plan: a 14-day trial and a 30-day money-back guarantee instead.
Klaviyo
Best for
Online stores: flows that start on orders, browsing and price drops, with email, SMS and WhatsApp in one place.
Strengths
- Flows trigger on lists, segments, metrics such as a placed order, date properties, price drops and low inventory, with store integrations behind them.
- Email, text (SMS and RCS), WhatsApp and mobile push are generally available, and a Klaviyo MCP server lets AI agents read and act on the account.
- A free plan for up to 250 active profiles and 500 email sends a month, then Email from $20 a month and Email + SMS from $35.
Watch-outs
- Billed by active profiles, the contacts who can receive email marketing, plus message volume, so the size of your list drives the price.
- Several of its triggers (orders, price drops, low inventory) assume a store; a B2B team without one uses fewer of them.
- Prices are in US dollars, on its French pages too.
Plezi
Best for
French B2B companies nurturing leads from content: forms, landing pages, scoring and a CRM sync, with French support.
Strengths
- Built for B2B lead generation: forms, landing pages, automated lead scoring and marketing emails from the Plus plan, with CRM synchronization.
- Workflows trigger on page visits, content downloads, form submissions and segments, and the Star plan adds Plezi's Smart Campaign, which builds a nurturing sequence for each prospect.
- A French company (Paris, founded in 2015, part of the Lundi Matin group), with a dedicated account manager, unlimited emails and no limit on active workflows.
Watch-outs
- Workflows start on Star, at €799 a month for 4,000 contacts; Plus (€169 a month, 1,000 contacts) has scoring and emails but no workflows.
- Plans come with an annual or a two-year commitment.
- The channel is email: its feature list names no SMS, WhatsApp or push.
Webmecanik
Best for
French B2B teams that want Mautic's depth as a managed service, with training and a dedicated customer success manager.
Strengths
- Webmecanik Automation is SaaS built on Mautic, sold by a French company that is a partner of the Mautic project, with French documentation and a dedicated customer success manager.
- Priced on contacts with an email address, with unlimited sends, users, landing pages and forms: €450 a month for 10,000 contacts on Entreprise, billed annually (€500 billed monthly).
- Web and event tracking, advanced lead scoring, A/B tests and account-based marketing; Webmecanik says its data is stored in France first, and its training is Qualiopi-certified, so French companies can have it funded through their OPCO.
Watch-outs
- An entry price for mid-sized lists: the ladder starts at 10,000 contacts, and Premium is €563 a month, billed annually.
- Onboarding and training are quoted separately.
- The Automation plans start with a demo request rather than a self-serve sign-up.
Best for
Teams that want Brevo's campaign breadth (emails, forms, landing pages, scoring) on code they run themselves.
Strengths
- Free software under GPL-3.0-or-later, with campaigns, segment emails, forms, landing pages, lead scoring and a REST API; version 7.2.1 shipped on 23 September 2026.
- Your database and your servers: contacts stay where you run it, and you choose the sending provider.
- Help in French if you want it: Webmecanik sells a Mautic-based SaaS, WebAnyOne in Lyon hosts a Mautic instance from €150 a month excluding VAT for up to 10,000 contacts, and the project's official partner, Dropsolid, starts at €247.50 a month billed annually.
Watch-outs
- Campaigns and segments run on cron jobs, so timing depends on how often your server runs them; budget for PHP upgrades and queue maintenance.
- SMS and web push come through integrations (Twilio, OneSignal), not built-in channels.
- The official hosting contract is out to tender: the project expects a new provider from 1 March 2027.
Customer.io
Best for
Product and SaaS teams that send messages from events their app tracks.
Strengths
- Event-triggered workflows across email, SMS, push, in-app, WhatsApp and LINE, with objects for accounts and data integrations.
- Essentials starts at $100 a month for 5,000 profiles, billed monthly, with a million emails a month.
- US or EU data centers on every plan, and an MCP server.
Watch-outs
- Profiles count people and objects, and Premium starts at $1,000 a month, billed yearly.
- It runs on your event data: your app sends events through its SDKs or API before workflows can use them.
fromHello
Best for
Teams that want journeys triggered by what people do, on open-source code they can self-host, and don't need newsletters.
Strengths
- Journeys triggered by what people do: first-party tracking, segments recomputed on every event and a visual builder with 14 node types across email, SMS, in-app banners and modals and ad audiences (Meta, LinkedIn, Google), with web push built into the platform.
- AGPL-3.0 and self-hostable on Postgres + Redis, with your own email provider; fromHello Cloud starts at €39 a month excluding VAT on Core, for 2,500 contacts, with unlimited seats. The dashboard is in English and French.
- Your own AI plugs in over MCP: 59 tools to create segments, journeys and templates and read analytics. No tool sends a message, and a journey your AI builds stays a draft until it is published.
Watch-outs
- fromHello Cloud is in early access, and every other tool here is generally available. Self-hosting is the path you can plan; fromHello Cloud is a waitlist.
- No newsletters or one-off campaigns, and no CRM, chat, landing pages or forms: if those are why you use Brevo, keep a tool for them.
- No WhatsApp, no mobile push, and no store, cart or order integration.

FAQ
Common questions
What is the best Brevo alternative for marketing automation?
It depends on why you're leaving. For newsletters and automation from another French vendor, Positive User (formerly Sarbacane). For unlimited workflows on a small budget, GetResponse. For deeper automation, ActiveCampaign. For an online store, Klaviyo. For French B2B lead nurturing, Plezi or Webmecanik. For product events, Customer.io. To run it yourself, Mautic, or fromHello, whose cloud is in early access.
Is there a French alternative to Brevo?
Yes, three on this list. Positive User, formerly Sarbacane, is the closest in shape: newsletters, SMS, WhatsApp and automation, from €69 a month billed annually. Plezi and Webmecanik are B2B marketing automation for lead nurturing: Plezi from €169 a month, with workflows from €799, and Webmecanik, built on Mautic, from €450. Brevo itself is French too.
Is there an open-source alternative to Brevo?
Yes. Mautic (GPL-3.0-or-later) covers campaigns, emails, forms, landing pages and lead scoring on your own server, and French hosts will run it for you. fromHello (AGPL-3.0) covers journeys triggered by what people do, without newsletters: self-host it, or use fromHello Cloud, in early access. For newsletters alone, Listmonk (AGPL-3.0) is the lighter option.
Which Brevo alternatives also send newsletters?
All of them except fromHello. Positive User, GetResponse, ActiveCampaign, Klaviyo, Plezi, Webmecanik, Mautic and Customer.io send one-off campaigns as well as automations. fromHello sends only through journeys, so if a regular newsletter is the job, keep a tool for it.
How does Brevo's pricing compare with these alternatives?
Brevo bills by email volume: Starter is $9 a month for 5,000 emails, and each tier caps the contacts you can store (500 at that tier, 500,000 from the 20,000-email tier, at $32). Automation covers 2,000 contacts until Standard, from $18, and WhatsApp and mobile push need Professional, from $499. Most alternatives bill by contacts or profiles instead: ActiveCampaign from $15 a month for 1,000 contacts billed annually, GetResponse from €16 at 1,000 contacts, Klaviyo from $20 by active profiles, Customer.io from $100 for 5,000 profiles. Positive User bills by plan and email allowance, with unlimited contacts.
Can I move my Brevo automations to another tool?
Your contacts move: Brevo exports them as a CSV, and every tool here takes a CSV import or an API write. Automations, segments and templates don't move as objects, so rebuild them in the new tool. Export your unsubscribed and blocklisted contacts too, and load them as a suppression list before the first send. fromHello is the exception: opt-outs don't import into it, so leave those contacts out of the file you bring to it.
